Kankakee County Gets Rebuild Illinois Funds (Audio)

Kankakee County entities stand to get some four-and-a-half-million dollars from the State in the latest round of “Rebuild Illinois” allocations. Ken Munjoy, Chief Operating Officer for River Valley Metro says they stand to get some three-and-a-half million dollars from the program to replace buses in the fleet

Munjoy said River Valley Metro historically has trouble getting money from the state for new buses. He adds the Downtown Kankakee Transfer station is still being worked on as well, with a spring opening planned for that facility.

In addition to the dollars being sent to River Valley Metro, the State announced yesterday a little over a million dollars in Rebuild Illinois Funds for Kankakee County. Ben Wilson, Transportation and Development Division Manger for Kankakee County says the county applied for two projects in the second round of the Rebuild Illinois Program

Statewide, more than 111-million dollars would be going to “downstate” transit providers for purchase of new vehicles as well as the construction of bus shelters, stations, and maintenance facilities.
