During this morning’s meeting of the Kankakee Count Board’s Criminal Justice Committee, County Sheriff’ Mike Downey addressed the downturn the county has seen in income from local fees and fines – something Downey places at the feet of the SAFE-T Act
Downey noted state law now prohibits the county from collecting things like probation fees, cash bail and even makes it difficult to collect money owed for traffic tickets.
