The Gemini Giant will be staying in Wilmington. The city announced today that the Joliet Area Historic Museum placed the winning bid at auction for the iconic Rt. 66 local landmark.

The purchase was made possible through a grant from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. City officials say the Gemini Giant will be on display right alongside the Route 66 monument on public property ensuring the Giant protection from future development. The property the Giant has stood on for decades was recently sold and the new owner put it up for auction. Here’s the press release from the City of Wilmington: Giant Press Release.
