GAYLE‘s debut hit “abcdefu” surges from No. 51 to No. 24 in its second week on the Billboard Hot 100 and rises to No. 1 on Billboard‘s Alternative Streaming Songs and Alternative Digital Song Sales charts dated Dec. 11.
The coronations are her first on any song charts, after she led her first Billboard list a week earlier when she topped the Emerging Artists tally.
In the Nov. 26-Dec. 2 tracking week, “abcdefu” earned 15.1 million U.S. streams, a boost of 47%, and sold 10,600 downloads, up 31%, according to MRC Data.
In addition to its climb on the Hot 100, the single pushes 6-2 on Hot Rock & Alternative Songs and Hot Alternative Songs, both of which use the Hot 100’s multi-metric methodology.
The track from the 17-year-old Dallas-born, Nashville-based singer-songwriter also leaps 33-13 on the all-format Streaming Songs chart, ranking as the list’s third-highest non-holiday entry, behind only Adele‘s “Easy on Me” (No. 4) and Taylor Swift‘s “All Too Well (Taylor’s Version)” (No. 7). On the all-format Digital Song Sales chart, it jumps 6-3.
“abcdefu” is additionally starting at radio, with official promotion having begun in the past week, as it debuts at No. 40 on Pop Airplay, thanks to a cleaner edit. It’s also drawing early spins on alternative radio (led by KUCD Honolulu and SiriusXM’s Alt Nation) and rhythmic and adult pop stations.
