A ceremony was held near Schneider Indiana Wednesday afternoon to commemorate the removal of the old State Line bridge on the Kankakee River. Tony Ferraro, aid to Indiana Governor Mike Braun was there and noted the bridge has been a problem for the Kankakee Valley for decades
Scott Pelath, Executive Director of the Kankakee River Basin, Yellow River Basin Development Commission who says removal of the bridge will not increase the amount of sand and debris moving down the river from Indiana
Pelath pointed out that Indiana has already invested millions of dollars to slow the amount of sediment going downstream into Illinois. The two-point-five million dollar project is planned to be completed some time in the next couple of weeks.
