Kankakee police make drug arrest

A shoplifting call led Kankakee City Police to a drug arrest. According to reports, it was just before 11 yesterday morning when officers were called to a store in the 18-hundred block of West Station Street for a suspected shoplifter. When they got there, officers say they spoke to a woman who reportedly had a large amount of lighters on her. Store employees said she’d left without paying for the lighters. A check found the woman, identified as 48-year-old Mary I Owens was wanted for a pair of warrants. While taking her into custody Officers allegedly found suspected illegal drugs in her purse. City Police arrested Owens for the warrants and for possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.
