City of Kankakee Designates Two New Honorary Streets

At last Monday night’s Kankakee City Council meeting, aldermen passed two resolutions for a few honorary street designations. The 100 block of North Myrtle Street will now be known as Tommie and Olean Lane Avenue. The Oleans lived in a house on that block for more than fifty-five years and became part of the history of the neighborhood and the community. The second honorary street designation was for the 100 block of South Greenwood Avenue, recognizing the late Arthur E. Lax, the founder of Lax Mortuary. Lax started the mortuary when he came to Kankakee in 1989. He passed away in August at age 75.
