Rensselaer Police arrest Merriville man on fraud charges

Rensselaer Police report charges have been filed against a 51-year-old Merrillville Indiana man after he allegedly passed a fraudulent check. In a Facebook post, Rensselaer Police say they were called to a business back in August when a man, later identified as Anthony Zimmerman, bought equipment worth 16-thousand-dollars with a fraudulent check. Law enforcement sayxs Zimmerman had active warrants for his arrest in four-counties because of alleged fraudulent activity. Last Tuesday, Rensselaer Police got a tip that Zimmerman was expected at a business on Route 114 near I-65. When officers tried to stop his care, Zimmerman allegedly took off and led them on a chase that was ended for safety concerns. Zimmerman was later taken into custody at a gas station in the Remington area, where he was found to be in possession of a golf cart he’d allegedly bought with another bogus check. Reports say Zimmerman has been charges with fraud and two counts each of theft and counterfeiting. They say more charges are pending. He’s being held in the Jasper County Jail.
