Herscher school district warns of whooping cough case

The Herscher Community School District has informed parents a one of their students has been diagnosed with Whooping Cough. In a memo sent out to parents Friday, Herscher school district says it was a high school student who was recently diagnosed and that they have been excluded from classes and extracurricular activities in compliance with Illinois Department of Public Health guidelines. Whooping Cough is a high contagious respiratory infection caused by bacteria and spreads through the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes. The district asks parents to monitor their child closely if they think they have been exposed, check their child’s vaccine records to make sure they are up to date, and to contact the school nurse if they do get diagnosed with Whooping Cough.
