Harbor House Raising Funds for Shelter

Harbor House of Kankakee and Iroquois Counties continues to raise money for the construction of their new 12-thousand square foot emergency shelter for victims of domestic violence. Executive Director Jenny Shoenwetter talks about how a gift from Alex Panozzo led to the naming of the new facility in memory of his sister Lorena Panozzo.

The new Harbor House facility will cost 4.5 million dollars in total. A 2-million dollar grant from the city of Kankakee has covered almost half the cost. Shoenwetter says they are still raising the funds for the remainder of the project.

The new shelter broke ground in November with a plan to be finished by the end of this year.
